Semarang (6/3) – The Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro, hosted a General Lecture entitled “Strengthening Academic Productivity through Research and Publication,” featuring Dr. Micah R. Fisher from the University of Hawai?i at M?noa, United States.
Supported by the UNDIP Equity Program 2026, the event formed part of the Joint Supervision Program initiated by the Media Sociology Research Group (KBK Sosiologi Media) under the leadership of Dr. Nurul Hasfi, S.Sos., M.A. The lecture brought together lecturers, researchers, students, and members of the academic community interested in exploring strategies for enhancing academic productivity, research quality, and publication impact.

In his opening remarks, the Head of the Department of Communication Science, Dr. Agus Naryoso, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized the importance of strengthening academic culture as a key foundation for producing high-quality and internationally competitive research.

The Dean of FISIP UNDIP, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., also expressed appreciation to the Department of Communication Science and the Media Sociology Research Group for organizing the event. He highlighted the role of such initiatives in strengthening academic culture and enhancing the academic reputation of FISIP UNDIP.
During the lecture, Dr. Micah presented “Making Magic: 10 Keys to Academic Productivity, Quality, and Impact.” He explained that academic productivity is not simply about increasing publication output but also about cultivating critical thinking, sustaining intellectual curiosity, and producing research that creates meaningful impact.
As a scholar from the School of Communication and Information, College of Social Sciences, University of Hawai?i at M?noa, Dr. Micah specializes in environment, equity, and social change. Prior to joining the University of Hawai?i, he was actively involved as a researcher at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawai?i.
According to Dr. Micah, institutional support and collaborative academic cultures are essential for sustaining research productivity. Universities, therefore, should foster environments that encourage idea development, research innovation, and scholarly publication.
“I am very excited by the tremendous enthusiasm and support shown by both the Department of Communication Science and FISIP UNDIP,” he said.

The General Lecture was moderated by Dr. Phil. Nuriyatul Lailiyah, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., a lecturer in the Department of Communication Science. The session featured active discussions on academic productivity, research development, and publication strategies.
Through this event, the Department of Communication Science reaffirmed its commitment to providing globally oriented academic programs that strengthen research culture, improve publication quality, and expand international academic collaboration opportunities.
